Private actors: Bellastock, architecture students, land owner
Founded in 2006, Bellastock is an interdisciplinary association of young architects about sustainable development in relationship with cultures, arts and territories. The 8th edition of the Bellastock Festival takes place in Maisse, in the
southern suburbs of Paris. “Greenwashing” hosted 1000 architecture students in a 3 days event, in which they had to design, auto-construct and inhabit a garden made of wood.
Students were there to built up their own shelters with branches, strings, clothes, hammers and saws. Few pallets and other dump materials to make the hut liveable and waterproof. The rain began to fall, but nothing could stop the people working and the music playing. Two big plazas were set up, one mainly for food providing and the other for the main stage and the bar. At the end, all together people returned the materials back to the dump (in a kind of mud path), and moved back to the city, leaving the garden with a sort of continuos living monument made of wood and new plants grown up from the seeds.
